Can Dogs Perceive Colors ? Are Dogs Colorblind ?

What is colorblindness ?

Can dog’s color vision beat humans ?

Are dogs actually colorblind ?

Most of us have have a misconception about our dogs seeing the world in black and white shades which is not at all true. They are not colorblind to the core and can see some colors, such as shades of blue and yellow but it’s an uphill task for them to determine tones of red and green .

Humans can see a horizon of colors while dogs share dichromatic vision which enables them to study restricted hues. Moreover this makes them identical to a person having red green colorblindness.

On any day if you are planning for a game of fetch with your partners in crime, always tie up the lose ends first by just picking a yellow or blue ball so it doesn’t get unnoticed.

Low light ability of dogs

Low light perception gives our four legged wonders an added advantage over us. The percentage of rods in them is exponentially high which is approximately 5 times out of our league. This provides our dogs with the innate ability to perceive tiny movements in the faintest of light possible. Performing night activities as in territorial instincts and hunting for food is naturally inherited in them from their ancestral values.

What colors can dogs perceive ?

Although their are some drawbacks in our paw pal’s color observations. But we shouldn’t count them out knowing that they can decide shades of yellow and blue perfectly just as we see the day. However spotting the red green color schemes is a chaotic riddle for dogs as it reflects to them in the form of brown and grayish hues.

Dog’s charming color sighting imperfection is equally benefited with their accomplishments in terms of their sense of smell which is amazingly estimated to be 10,000 times considerably effective than us. So exact that some breed’s sniffing power is used for tracking criminals and conducting search operations along with as an evidence in court of laws.

How are dog’s eyes so expressive ?
